First, what makes a millet cookie different?
Millets are ancient grains India has grown for thousands of years — long before refined wheat flour took over. They're naturally rich in fibre and minerals, and they bring a distinct nuttiness you simply don't get from maida. When we started Grab Millet, the idea was simple: take the grains our grandparents ate and bake them into something you'd actually crave with your evening chai.
Every cookie we make uses jaggery instead of refined sugar and real butter instead of palm oil. What changes between our three tins is the hero grain — and that changes everything about taste and texture.
Ragi (finger millet) — the earthy classic
Ragi is Karnataka's own grain — it grows all around Bengaluru and shows up in everything from ragi mudde to ragi dosa. It's one of the richest plant sources of calcium among common grains, and it's naturally high in fibre.
In a cookie, ragi is bold. It gives a deep, earthy, almost malty flavour and a tender, slightly crumbly bite. We sprout our ragi before roasting it, which rounds off the bitterness people sometimes associate with ragi flour, and we top each cookie with cashew for richness.
Pick ragi if: you grew up with millet flavours, you like your cookies less sweet and more "grainy", or you want the most traditional-tasting tin of the three. Our Ragi Cookies are the tin most Bengaluru customers reorder.
Jowar (sorghum) — the light, golden one
Jowar is naturally gluten-free and has a mild, slightly sweet flavour — closer to a classic wheat cookie than any other millet. That's why it's often the easiest first step for people new to millet baking.
In our Jowar Cookies we pair it with toasted coconut, jaggery and almond. The result is golden, crisp at the edges and gently chewy in the middle — the lightest cookie of our three. Because jowar is gluten-free, the texture is a touch more delicate and short.
Pick jowar if: you avoid gluten, you prefer a milder cookie, or you're buying for kids and elders who want something familiar-tasting.
Oats — the everyday comfort
Oats technically aren't a millet, but they earn their place in our kitchen: they're rich in beta-glucan fibre, widely loved, and they bake into the heartiest cookie of the lot. Our Almond Oat Cookies are gluten-free by recipe and loaded with almond.
Texture-wise, oats give a dense, satisfying chew with a toasty, honey-like note from the jaggery. If ragi is the traditionalist and jowar is the diplomat, oats is the crowd-pleaser — the tin that disappears first at office snack tables.
Pick oats if: you want the most filling cookie, you love almond, or you're pairing it with morning coffee rather than evening chai.
So… which one should you actually buy?
Honestly? All three — that's exactly why we made the Millet Trio Pack, with one tin of each at 10% off. Most people discover a clear favourite within the first week, and it's rarely the one they expected.
If you're gifting, the Festive Gift Box wraps all three in a ribboned box with a personal message card.
A quick word on storage
Whichever tin you pick: transfer the cookies to an airtight container once opened, and enjoy them within a month of the manufacture date. There are no preservatives doing the keeping for you — just butter, jaggery and grain.
